The conventional architecture for an Information System of a telco operator company is described and explained, with especial remarks on its organization and interoperation among different blocks. The structure of the different departments involved and the benefits of automation over the clients are reviewed.
The evolution of the Spanish cable telco operator ONO is taken as an example, mentioning necessary changes to adapt to the new business opportunities, new incomes as well as some ideas of forecasting about the future of the company it the risky business of the IT sector in a context of liberalization.
Carlos Moreno-Alonso, 37 years old. Director of Information Systems and Internet at ONO. Industrial Engineer, Master of Communication Systems (University of Wales).
Since June 2000 he works at Cableuropa (ONO). Previously he developed his professional activity as consultant, senior consultant and director of department involved in projects for the deployment and system integration of Internet Communications for Telco operators. He started his professional career in Paris developing civil and military communication projects; he moved to Madrid working in the framework of the new .com companies.
