Tutorial 1
Technologies for Data Grids
Time: Monday 27 June 2005
Instructor: Felix Garcia-Carballeira, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain
Abstract:
Grid computing allows to integrate resources (computers, networks
and storage devices) geographically dispersed to obtain a computational
infrastructure very appropriate for the resolution of complex problems
of the science, engineering, industry and society. In this kind of
environments, the access to the information continues being a problem.
Currently there are a great interest in develop technologies to integrate
storage resources in grid environments. The objective of these technologies
is to provide an infrastructure for data grids environments. This
kind of infrastructure facilitates a logical view of heterogeneous
distributed data resources that are shared between autonomous administrative
domains, and provides a location independent logical namespace. The
objective of this tutorial is to introduce the data grid technologies,
covering introduction, existing technologies, open research issues,
and demonstrations if possible.
